Paging All Justice League Members

One week has passed since Steppin’ Up happened. I’ve never been to anything quite like it. There’s just this atmosphere to it, it’s really hard to describe.

Although I’m not going to give you a play-by-play of the event I was struck most by the size of it. There were just so many people. It was the second time I’ve been to Steppin’ Up so I can’t really compare it to other years, but wow. I think that all of Claremont was there. Seriously.

It was so awe-inspiring to be around like-minded people. Everyone who was there was in support of survivors. Steppin’ Up gave me warm, fuzzy feelings all day, I mean 6 days have passed and I’m still writing about the event.

I don’t want to gush, but I think Steppin’ Up moved me so much because it reminded me that people do care. Not just a handful of people, but hordes of people care. My hope wasn’t lost, per se, but attending the walk really lit my fire again. Like, I’m so ready to go out there and make my community safer. Sometimes, Green Dot can feel kind of lonely, like I’m Batman and I’m trying to protect Gotham City all by myself. At Steppin’ Up I felt so connected to everyone around me, and to Claremont, it reminded me that I’m actually part of the Justice League—and that we can all work together to prevent violence.

For any of my readers out there who struggle to be an active bystander, I hear you, but remember there are a bunch of people just like you who want to make things better too 😊

Until next time,

#SteppinUp #Run #Claremont #Bystander
